The KwaMashu School of Dance Theatre will
present the MSDT Solo/Duet Festival tomorrow afternoon (September 28) at the KwaMashu
Steel Gym.
This programme of children and youth performances
is titled Children under the Stars.
“Our company’s core business is narrating
stories that empower and transform communities to the ultimate version of their
potential” says Vusi Makanya, artistic director of the KwaMashu School of Dance
Theatre.
“We do this through the immense power of
music, dance and movement. Through an encounter of our art form, one is able to
reflect on one’s social construct of gender, education, relationships, religion
and other social sciences. Subsequently, one is challenged to interrogate these
and a dialogue is instigated amongst community members. It is through these
dialogues that we change perceptions and inculcate values.
The Solo/Duet Festival takes place on September
28 from 14h00 to 16h00 at the KwaMashu Steel Gym (Old post office). Entrance
fee: R120 at the door, R80 pre-sold, R50 group of 10, free under 10 years
