(Charl du Plessis & Christopher Duigan)
There are at least two opportunities to
catch leading concert pianists and Steinway Artists, Music Revival’s
Christopher Duigan and Charl du Plessis at the Hilton Arts Festival.
Duigan and du Plessis will be performing a
concert at the Hilton Arts Festival taking place from September 13 to 15, 2019.
In his programme Charl du Plessis plays a varied choice of music by Chopin,
Piazzolla, Gershwin and his own improvisations. Charl du Plessis most recently
made headlines when he became the first pianist ever to perform on top of Table
Mountain. He has embarked on an international career working simultaneously as
classical and jazz pianist and has illuminated the music of from Bach to Billy
Joel for a new generation of listeners.
Duigan will be playing an outstanding
selection of the music of the romantic piano poet, Frederic Chopin. This
highlights the bold, virtuosic and majestic elements of the composer’s music
over the more readily-expected elegant and atmospheric elements. In December
2019, together with Spanish saxophonist David Salleras, Duigan was soloists
with the Orquestra des Valles at the one of the world’s most prestigious
concert venues, the Palau de la Musica, Barcelona. Their performance was
repeated at the Enbdler Hall, Woordfees in Stellenbosch in March 2019. In July
this year, Duigan returned to play in England at the Latimer Music Festival, a
series of concerts, programmed around a small of collective of musicians.
Duigan plays Saturday September 14 at 14h45
and du Plessis the same day at 11h00. Both recitals will be held in the
magnificent Hilton College Chapel.
