When
I saw the show in March, I suggested that it was one of the best of a long list
of marvellous tribute shows by The Reals. Nothing I saw last night changed my
mind. (Review by Keith Millar)
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
That is exactly the case with this
exceptional tribute show presented at the Rhumbelow Theatre in Umbilo by
Durban’s popular and multi-talented rock band, The Reals.
It was first performed in March this year
(2019), to considerable critical acclaim, at the Rhumbelow venue at Tina’s
Hotel in Kloof. Now it is back, untouched and unchanged, in all its back to
basics, stripped down rock and roll glory.
Paying homage to many great rock guitarists
the show features everyone from the elegant Hank Marvin of the Shadows through
to the off-the-wall genius of Jimi Hendrix, with the likes of Eric Clapton,
Brian May, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Moore, Slash, David Gilmour and Ritchie
Blackmore in between. All played with consummate skill and musicality by our
own Barry Thomson.
When I saw the show in March, I suggested
that it was one of the best of a long list of marvellous tribute shows by The
Reals. Nothing I saw last night changed my mind.
So in the spirit of “If it ain’t broke,
don’t fix it” I refer you to the review I wrote at that time as my sentiments
about the show remain exactly the same. See http://news.artsmart.co.za/2019/03/rock-guitar-legends_14.html
