Travis Conrad (Hawke), a hitman, retires following the deaths of his wife and child. Red Mountain, a military contractor, lures Conrad out of retirement with a high-paying job to assassinate Keith, a whistleblower who could reveal Red Mountain's war crimes. After seducing Lin, an Interpol agent protecting Keith, Conrad is killed in a shootout with her. Red Mountain retrieves Conrad's corpse and revives him, explaining that the procedure will keep him alive for 24 hours before his body shuts down again. As a side-effect, Conrad experiences frequent flashbacks to his family life, forcing him to confront his grief. Remorseful over the attempted assassination, Conrad becomes determined to protect Lin and Keith from Red Mountain despite their reluctance to trust him.
