On Tuesday, (November 5, 2019) at 17h00 for 17h30, a new exhibition
titled Change Room curated by Mbali
Shabane opens at the Menzi Mchunu Art Gallery at the BAT Centre, Durban.
The exhibition features art works from seven Durban-based emerging
artists. The exhibiting artists include Andiswa Tshabalala, Londiwe Mtshali,
Lorin Sookool, Ncumisa Mcitwa, Nomusa Mtshali and Selloane Moeti.
The artists have captured, and brought to life, the stories shared by
the women that they have been engaging with in the past three months. As a
woman activist and artist, the curator is the 7th member of the exhibiting Wombman.
Change Room affirms the authenticity
of storytelling and creates an environment of reflection, identification and
likelihood emphasising how people relate to one another through shared, similar
encounters and experiences. At the opening ceremony, in the evening, the
award-winning jazz vocalist Xolisa Dlamini will give her artistic offering in
song. She is a recording artist with two jazz albums under her wings.
There will be a walkabout of the exhibition on November 7, 2019, at
10h30.
The works will be on display until November 30, 2019. The BAT Centre is
situated at 45 Maritime Place in the Small Craft Harbour on the Victoria
Embankment.
