With the international theme of this year’s
World AIDS Day being “Communities Make The Difference” HACT is inviting its friends,
donors and partners from around the world to join its team in commemorating
this special day which this year takes place on December 1, 2019.
“HACT will be opening its doors in the week
leading up to this year’s World AIDS Day with a special line-up of events and
activities on offer to those looking to play their part by volunteering their
time and skills” Candace Davidson, HACT CEO
This year’s World AIDS Day theme aims to
celebrate the essential role that communities have and continue to play in the
response to HIV and AIDS and recognize its crucial importance, particularly at
the present time when there is an ever-shrinking pot of funding and support
available to sustain the kind of life-saving HIV prevention, education and care
services which organisations such as HACT are delivering at a grassroots level.
“Working alongside the communities we serve
has always been an integral part of HACT’s approach to ensuring our projects
remain relevant and respond to the needs of local people infected and affected
by the disease. However, World AIDS Day is also an opportunity for our wider
community who are perhaps less affected to learn about the disease and find
ways to give back in their own capacity. HACT continues to offer essential
services within our communities, and we invite our communities to join together
to make a difference.” Candace Davidson, HACT CEO
Volunteering opportunities available at
HACT will include assisting in the centre’s Plant Nursery and Woza Moya arts
and crafts programme, preparing meals for patients in the 24-bed Respite Unit
as well as community-based activities such as painting and revamp projects at
local schools and crèches.
