#TRIBUTEJAZZCONCERT

In March 2019 Sagiya Foundation presented #UJE Horn Hang up Concert as a three legged tribute concert that was successfully presented at Rainbow Jazz Restaurant, BAT Centre and Loft Theatre in The Playhouse Company.

The Playhouse Company takes pride to bring back this Tribute Concert again to chill audiences up for the Jazzy Festive of its kind. Now it is called #TributeJazzConcert, it will feature even more prominent artists: Natalie Rungan, Ernie Smith, Xolisa Dlamini, Alias Ngidi, Victor Sithole, Mthobisi Mthalane, Umkhumbane Jazz Ensemble, Jerry Kunene, Moses Sefatsa, Gabriel Youngstar and RoyalSon.

Tribute Jazz Concert goes to the acclaimed 86 years-old Moses Sefatsa, who is still playing his first horn he bought in 1954. He is a member of Umkhumbane Jazz Ensemble that is contributing a lot to his compositions that carry influences of Miles Davis, Dixieland, Bebop, Cool Jazz and Hip Pop feels. Sefatsa is one of the founders of the 1950's Rhythm Aces that brought about the popularity of the sounds of Latin American Dance groves in South Africa. Still living in Umkhumbane after so many years, he is a great influence behind the Amarabi Groves that depicts Umkhumbane musical culture and heritage.

The #Tribute Jazz Concert also goes to Adolph Kunene, the vocalist of Umkhumbane Jazz Ensemble. Kunene is also an 86 year-old musician, popularly known as "Sigaxamabhande". His name came after a popular song by African Jazz Pioneers that he sings very energetically as it featured in Umkhumbane Jazz Ensemble Album called Ezintabeni. Kunene is a former Amazulu FC football star, which realized his musical talent while growing up and assisted many musicians and choirs in the Umkhumbane area.

The Playhouse Company will host #Tribute Jazz Concert to honour the two great veteran musos that contributed to bring about the identity of South African Music.
