Bongani Tembe, Chief Executive &
Artistic Director of the KZN Philharmonic introduces the KZNPO Summer Season as
follows:
“Music is an essential part of South
African life. It forms part of the rhythm of our day as we move from place to
place. It is the melody in our hearts as we sing to keep us going through highs
and lows. And it is the harmony of our humanity as the cultures of our land
live and work together to build families and communities. The KwaZulu-Natal
Philharmonic Orchestra is proud to be an essential part of your life, infusing
your soul with musical rhythm, melody and harmony.
“Our World Symphony Series is specially
curated to instil inspiration and joy into your spirits during the heat of the
Summer Season, and we are excited to welcome back three of our favourite
conductors. Arjan Tien and Yasuo Shinozaki will lead concerts that feature the
music of Beethoven, Brahms and Bizet, showcasing the talent of highly
accomplished soloists including pianist Jan Jiracek von Arnim and American
violinist Tai Murray. Maestro William Eddins will conduct an exotic evening of
operatic hits, featuring South African soprano Zandile Mzazi and excellent
guitarist Goran Krivokapić, who will play the most famous guitar concerto ever
composed - Rodrigo’s legendary Concierto
de Aranjuez.
“Summer, ihlobo, is a beautiful time in our
magical country. It is a time of energy, a time of passion, a time of community
and togetherness. I ask that you join us for these fantastic four concerts that
will surely enrich your lives. In the words of the great American composer
Aaron Copland, “so long as the human spirit thrives on this planet, music in
some living form will accompany and sustain it and give it meaning”,” Tembe
concludes.
The KZN Philharmonic remains sensitive to
the current economic climate and has retained the same ticket prices over the
past three years for the 2020 World Symphony Series. As a Season Ticket holder,
patrons will enjoy the following benefits:
