The KZNSA Gallery goes to the Investec Cape Town Art Fair which will
take place from February 14 to 16, 2020, at the Cape Town International
Convention Centre.
KZNSA transforms the local arts community through activating and
incubating contemporary ideas, artists, and cultural production. As the leading
contemporary art gallery in KwaZulu-Natal, they are excited to announce their
inaugural participation in the Cape Town Art Fair. Their presentation will
include the works of two KZN-based artists, Callan Grecia and Derrick Nxumalo.
Investec Cape Town Art Fair showcases a diversity of work that
represents the forefront of contemporary art from Africa to the world and the
world to Cape Town.
It is the “largest art fair on the African continent, showing cutting
edge contemporary art. The fair provides a platform for galleries, collectors,
curators and artists from around the globe to engage in cultural and economic
exchange."'- https://www.investeccapetownartfair.co.za/hours-and-info/
With the aforementioned in mind, the KZNSA presents two artists; both in
different stages of their careers, both working with distinctive mediums, an
articulated use of colour and an intensity that speaks to the vibrancy of the
city in which they live – Durban. That intensity is carried through in the
laborious art-making process of Nxumalo's painstaking use of ballpoint mark
making with acrylic paint and Grecia's ability to combine a vast array of media
- from the conventional oil paint to glitter and glue, crayon, duct tape and
the aesthetics of graffiti - all in one work compellingly.
A dialogue emerges between Nxumalo's utopian dreams of ideal cities,
aspirational interiors and pristine landscapes and Grecia's irony and humour in
a dystopian world.
The KZNSA will be at the CTICC on stand F2, the artists will be in
attendance. Tickets available on Webtickets.
