“Risqué, Irreverent &
Very Naughty” is how the forthcoming Rhumbelow Theatre production, Rowan Skits, is described.
Rowan Skits, a selection of
the classic Rowan Atkinson sketches, is devised, directed & performed by
Paul Spence. It will run at Rhumbelow Theatre at Tina’s Hotel in Kloof followed
by performances in Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
Rowan Atkinson is not only
the world's wealthiest comedian thanks to his silent 'Mr Bean' going global,
he's also the most gifted one since Groucho Marx.
In Rowan Skits, Paul Spence celebrates the comic genius of the Oxford
man with the mobile face by showcasing Rowan's unique brand of verbal sketches
on a wide range of risqué subjects.
Whether holding forth on
the Graham Norton celebrity chat show, interviewing a fresh-faced Elton John at
the National Theatre, portraying a draconian public school Headmaster, an
unctuous Archdeacon or welcoming us as a mischievously camp Devil to his wicked
Inferno, the one and only Rowan Atkinson knows just how to tweak our funny
bones in unexpectedly hilarious directions.
An actor with the Royal
Shakespeare Company in the UK for seven years, Spence has acted and directed in
theatres from Edinburgh to Copenhagen, Vienna to Tokyo. He currently entertains
audiences with cabaret and theatre shows in venues across South Africa and
directs his anarchic amateur dramatic company, The Upstagers, in regular shows
at the Schlesinger Theatre, Michaelhouse.
Rowan Skits runs from March 4
to 8 at Tina’s Hotel in Kloof with performances Friday to Saturday at 20h00 and
on Sunday at 14h00. (The theatre venue opens 60 minutes before show for drinks)
Tickets R160 (R140
pensioners and students with a valid student card) and tables seat 8. (No
alcohol or food may be brought on to the premises). Tickets are cash or EFT

Tina’s Hotel is situated at
14 Beryldene Road in Kloof.
This show will run at Rhumbelow Durban from March 13 to 15, 2020, and at
the Allan Wilson Shellhole in Pietermaritzburg with one performance on May 24,
2020.
