Friends of Music will present a showcase of
popular opera, musical theatre and contemporary classics on February 11, 2020,
with The Opera Angels, a unique and dynamic duo featuring pianist and soprano Dr
Lisa Engelbrecht and mezzo soprano Lindsay Thomson.
Having worked together in Cape Town on
various opera productions, Engelbrecht and Thomson. created Opera Angels after
being approached to appear on-board the prestigious Queen Victoria Ship as
their Classical Artists. Since then they have appeared as regular guests at the
Mount Nelson Hotel, amongst others, and are in great demand throughout South
Africa.
Engelbrecht is the vocal coach at University
of Cape Town's Opera School and also musical director of Opera in Darling and
the Cape Opera Ensemble. She is also guest coach at the Royal Academy and
College of Music as well as The Grange Festival in the UK. Thomson performs
regularly abroad in concerts in London and on various cruise liners around the
world.
Audiences can expect to be transported
through a broad and colourful spectrum of music during their show - from iconic
opera works and classical masterpieces to musical theatre medleys and some
surprising arrangements of popular favourites.
The Opera Angels concert takes place on
February 11 at 19h30 at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 K E Masinga (Old Fort)
Road. Tickets R100 to R120 available at the door There is safe parking and a cash
bar.
