ARIEL & JUANA FOR CENTRE FOR JAZZ

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music welcomes back Ariel & Juana on Wednesday March 4, 2020.

Ariel & Juana is a duet from Argentina, although they have been residing in South Africa for some time. They have performed alongside Andile Yenana, Afrika Mkhize, Yonela Mnana, Reza Khota. They recently returned from a two month trip to Argentina were they performed in their home town of Bariloche, in Patagonia, with local musicians.

Their interpretations are characterised for intensely evoking a variety of feelings, inviting the audience to join them on a trip through emotions. With an approach to music from a communal perspective, improvising over sonic landscapes where myths and legends, beliefs and shortcomings of society can be explored and re imagined.

They were recently awarded Concerts SA mobility funds, and they toured Lesotho, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Argentina.

Ariel and Juana will be performing with a great band, comprised by Salim Washington, a professor at the university, with vast experience and renowned saxophonist, flautist and clarinettist. Stanley Matlou, a young drummer who is a UKZN graduate with great technique and a sensitivity to the music.

The concert takes place on March 4 at 18h00 (doors open at 17h30) at The Centre for Jazz and Popular music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus.
