DUrbanTV is pleased to announce that their
programme Tracking the Heritage of Steam,
has been awarded second place at the prestigious International Tourism Film
Festival Africa (ITFFA).
The festival itself went 'virtual' to
present the award ceremony after the major African tourism industry event, the
World Travel Market, to be held in Cape Town this month was cancelled due to
the Covid-19 outbreak.
DUrbanTV was the first online TV channel in
South Africa.
The DUrbanTV Tracking the Heritage of Steam production, part of a series of five
programmes produced especially for heritage month, was awarded second place in
the Tourism Products - Heritage Category, beating out productions from across
South Africa and Africa, and, is the only award-winner representing Durban and
KwaZulu-Natal.
The award-winning production highlights the
unique history of Durban's steam railway, which has the honour of being the
first to have been developed in South Africa. The production team worked with
the city's local heritage museum and the dedicated volunteers, who keep the
Inchanga Steam Railway and museum quite literally on the rails.
Doreen Theys, of DUrbanTV says: "This
is fantastic news, especially considering the strain everyone in tourism in our
province is under right now. We hope this accolade will go a long way to
ensuring that ventures like the Umgeni Steam Railway's Inchanga Choo-Choo continue
to find both public and city support to enable them to continue, as they are
major attractions and create exciting adventures for the public and tourists to
experience."
In respect of the award itself, Doreen
added, "As for DUrbanTV, this award confirms the attention that our unique
online channel brings has great value for the city, the province and everyone
involved in the tourism industry. We hope that as the lockdown is lifted
DUrbanTV can continue to highlight even more tourism offerings to get the local
industry back on track and bring national and international tourists back again
as quickly as possible."
The DUrbanTV Heritage series also caught
the attention of international Juror, Janna Tolstikova, the Head of
International department of TV Brics. As a direct result, the full DUrbanTV
5-part series will soon be premiered on the Brics channel and reach an audience
of 4 million people throughout Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
DUrbanTV has also signed an MOU with TV
Brics to become a partner channel and will continue to supply content to its 4
million-strong audience to promote Durban and KwaZulu Natal specific content.
