Durban welcomes sizzling new Adult Panto: Red Hot… goes down in the woods! this festive season at OnStage@Altitude.

Based on the Little Red Riding Hood story, this new adaptation will provide much needed laughter to comedy and Adult Panto fans who have enjoyed these “pantomimes for grownups” since 1996.

Red-hot Ruby is on the verge of an awakening with a rumbling in her … um, belly. She’s sent on her way to Grandma’s house with some helpful hints from Mama-Ru (played by Thomie Holtzhausen) and a basket full of interesting goodies. Can she withstand the advances of the Big Bad Wolf, or is it him who has to tread lightly?

The heroine is played by panto newcomer Leah Mari who has been seen in many of Durban-produced Young Performers musicals and won the DALRO Act Scholarship for performing arts.

Stalwart of the circuit, Anthony Stonier, who has been in all but two of the 24 Adult Pantomimes is delighted (and horrified) to be cast as Grandma, saying: “It was only a matter of time, sigh! But not to fear boys and girls, Granny is sure to have a star turn, or two”.

The preppy and sophisticated Big Bad Wolf is played by Tommy Kidd who also appears as Grandma’s butler Rimswell, assisting with her lounge act and outrageous demands. Roland Perold, who recently returned to Durban, has written the script and will be in charge of musical direction, as well as appearing as prince Chop-a-Lot in pursuit of a good whack here and there.

Holtzhausen directs and also owns OnStage@Altitude where the Adult Panto has been housed for the past five years. “This intimate venue really lends itself to our kind of entertainment and we’re fortunate to be able to run the show, even at a smaller capacity” says Holtzhausen.

Performances will be limited to 50 audience members in line with Covid regulations, and the venue is sanitised before and after each performance. The show can also be booked for end of year corporate events, with the same maximum seating capacity.

OnStage @ Club Altitude is at 25 Silver Avenue, Greyville, and has ample safe street parking with security guards on duty.

The adjacent KitchenKulture serves amazing and affordable meals.  Contact Eon/Monique on 073 541 3284 for menu and catering requirements.

Red Hot… goes down in the woods! runs from November 26 to December 20, 2020. Tickets available at Quicket at R150 per person:
