Durban welcomes sizzling new Adult Panto: Red Hot… goes down in the woods! this festive season at OnStage@Altitude.
Based on the Little Red Riding Hood story, this new adaptation will provide much needed laughter to comedy and Adult Panto fans who have enjoyed these “pantomimes for grownups” since 1996.
Little Red is on the verge of an awakening with a rumbling
in her… um, belly. She’s sent on her way to Grandma’s house with some helpful
hints from ‘Mamma’ (played by Thomie Holtzhausen) and a basket full of
interesting goodies. Can she withstand the advances of the Big Bad Wolf, or is
it him who has to tread lightly?
Our heroine, Little Red is played by panto newcomer Leah Mari. Leah has been seen in many of our locally-produced Young Performer's Musicals and won the DALRO Act Scholarship for performing arts.
Stalwart of the circuit, Anthony Stonier, who has been in all but two of the 24 adult pantomimes is delighted (and horrified) to be cast as Grandma, saying: “It was only a matter of time, sigh! But not to fear boys and girls, Granny is sure to have a star turn, or two”.
The very talented Bryan Hiles is the woodcutter Phil McCravis and also acts as Narrator. The preppy and sophisticated Big Bad Wolf is played by Tommy Kyd who also appears as Phil McCravis' side-kick Pornochio.
Durban magic maker Darren King directs. Set design by Keith Pellew and costumes by Tommy Kyd. Thomie Holtzhausen, who also owns OnStage@Altitude where the Adult Panto has been housed for the past 5 years, wrote the hilarious script. “This intimate venue really lends itself to our kind of entertainment and we’re fortunate to be able to run the show, even at a smaller capacity” says Holtzhausen.
Performances will be limited to 50 audience members in line with Covid regulations, and the venue is sanitised before and after each performance. The show can also be booked for end of year corporate events, with the same maximum seating capacity.
