VALENTINE’S VARIETY GALA CONCERT

(Zandile Mzazi)

Bongani Tembe, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, announced that the KZNPO is pleased to present video recordings from its sister orchestra, the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra in order to celebrate National Women’s Month.

“This is the successful Valentine’s Variety Gala Concert performed during their 2020 Summer Season. We pay tribute to the women of South Africa as we provide beautiful recordings of talented South African soprano, Zandile Mzazi, performing a selection of works with the Johannesburg Philharmonic, under the baton of maestro, William Eddins.” The recordings include:

Jules Massenet: "Je marche” from Manon

Giuseppe Verdi: “E strano” from La Traviata

Franz Lehar: “Meine lippen” from Giuditta

Tembe recently appeared in an interview conducted by Prontuit TV about the impact of the COVID pandemic on the arts.

During the lockdown, musicians had to pack away their instruments and wait until they could play in front of an audience again, or find an alternative way to bring their music to their audiences. Several local and international artists turned to virtual concerts and performances.

Tembe adds: “Together with the World Symphony Series, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra also undertakes a comprehensive education, development and community engagement programme which exposes more than 30,000 urban and township learners to educational music concerts. Without the support of those who share our love for music and commitment to being an essential resource for the people of our country, the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic would be hard-pressed to achieve its mission. We are a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) with SARS."

He has appealed to supporters to donate to the KZNPO to ensure its artistic growth and financial stability.
