The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (UKZN) and iSupport Creative Business will present Naftali and Qadasi and Maqhinga as well as Natalie Rungan’s Tribute to Tania Donjeany.
The online concert will take place as part of the regular Unlocked Music Sessions on Wednesday September 16, 2020, at 18h00, and tickets are R50 available on Webtickets.
Raised in Mamelodi, Pretoria, growing up Naftali's voice was not something to be passed over as it grew to be unique with the refinement of his ear, taking an interest in South, West and East African melodic styles and fusing those with his own. With dedication and growing confidence, Naftali created his band, The Royal Family. In this innovative process, Naftali and the Royal Family have worked with several different musicians within varying musical styles, allowing him to explore a variety of sounds of expression as an artist and enriched his musical dialogue with the people. His dedication and talent have allowed him to play shows all over South Africa and neighbouring countries. He recently released his debut single Kea Shwa.

Hailing from the heart of Zululand, David "Qadasi" Jenkins and Maqhinga Radebe is a SAMA Award-winning duo on a quest to revive the powerful sounds of traditional Maskandi music. Both professional musicians in their own right, the duo have taken their fusion of traditional Zulu and western folk music to audiences in the UK, Europe, Asia and throughout South Africa.
With her sultry looks and powerful vocals, Natalie Rungan is one of KwaZulu Natal's most celebrated musicians who grew up surrounded by music and the sounds of the old-time jazz greats, gospel and RnB. Natalie, who has just released her first single off her sixth album Caught in the middle, wants this virtual concert to be different from her recent musical offerings. She has decided to pay tribute to an extraordinary person, the late Tania Donjeany, who was a part of Natalie's musical journey for over 20 years.

Remembered fondly for her vibrant personality, infectious laugh and generous heart, Tania Donjeany wasn't just a fan of Natalie's music, but she became family to her. She sadly passed two years ago, leaving a massive void in the lives of all who loved her so dearly. In this concert, Rungan wishes to honour the memory of this exceptional lady by performing some of Donjeany’s favourite songs. Joined by Mark Royeppen on keyboards, Sebastian Gilchrist on bass and Bruce Baker on drums this promises to be a memorable concert.
