Only three weeks remain for visual artists to apply for the Ubuciko Professional Development Programme presented by Pareto Limited.
Pareto Limited is pioneering new pathways for visual artists working in Gauteng through Ubuciko, a uniquely-curated Professional Development Programme. Ubuciko recognises creativity and ability in the visual arts sector by placing impetus on professional growth and development for emerging artists. Pareto Limited is the path-maker, carving overtures within the retail industry framework for visual artists by way of facilitating workshops on professional and best practice guidelines and training through Ubuciko.
Pareto Limited prides itself in growing places and creating opportunity for sustainable business development in South Africa through their investment in commercial and retail properties. Pareto Limited is trailblazing new paths for emerging professionals in the visual arts sector to upgrade their business knowledge and capacity for growth.
Pareto Limited comprehends the enormous social value the arts bring to South Africa and has observed how the current economic climate in tandem with the present reality of a pandemic has hamstrung the arts and culture sector locally. As a company that invests in ‘growing places’ they see equal value in path-making to arrive at the places of growth they invest in. Their fundamental responsibility, as a company, is to assist in improving the quality of lives of individuals and communities in South Africa in areas in which their shopping centres are located.
Every crisis presents a unique opportunity to be harnessed by those affected. Visual artists are the ultimate path-finders, creating new forms and expressions in their artwork whilst having to become innovative and agile in their business practice. Ubuciko addresses both the artistry and the business through this workshop offering moving forward towards sustainable arts and business development.
Ubuciko is looking to upskill emerging South African visual artists, based in Gauteng in key areas of professional practice career sustainability during and after Covid19.
Shortlisted candidates will participate in a guided curriculum addressing artistic career development training and sustainability covering topics such as (but not limited to);
Funding for Art Development Projects of an interdisciplinary and collaborative nature
- Marketing
- Project Management
- Pricing Art
- Art Law
Criteria:
Applicant must be between the ages of 20 and 35 years old.
Submission of an up-to-date digital portfolio.
Must have exhibited in at least two group exhibitions over the last two
years.
Submission of a Bio/CV and at least two bodies of work via the online
application process.
*Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
Applications close Friday, September 18, 2020.
Announcement of successful applicants will be made on September 30, 2020.
Workshop Dates:
Menlyn Park Shopping Centre (Pretoria): October 19-23, 2020
Southgate Mall (Johannesburg): October 19-23, 2020
Workshops will take place at Menlyn Park Shopping Centre and Southgate Mall respectively, if Government Covid19 regulations allow. Alternatively, a digital platform will be created for the workshop facilitation and participation.
