JINGLE BELL ROCK

Barry Thomson and the Reals will present Jingle Bell Rock for one performance on December 13 in Pietermaritzburg, with further runs at Rhumbelow Durban from December 18 to 24 and at Tina’s Hotel in Kloof from December 27 to 31, 2020.

“We have finally made it to the end of 2020, and oh boy, are any of us ever going to forget it? We all deserve a little night out to celebrate the end of one of the scariest and most trying years of our lives,” says Roland Stansell who runs the Rhumbelow Theatre circuit.

So, join guitarist Barry Thomson, keyboardist Dawn Selby, with guests, bassist Trevor Donjeany (who was Johnny Clegg’s bass player) and multitalented and multi-instrumentalist,  Andy Turrell on drums with vocalist Marion Loudon for some festive fare including Jingle Bell Rock, Let it Snow, Winter Wonderland and Rocking around The Christmas Tree!

Jingle Bell Rock is a ‘no mess no fuss’ show which follows the usual Reals formula with a fantastic collection of songs from all of their previous tribute shows, including Fleetwood Mac, Partytime, Behind the Noise and Barry Thomson’s solo show, Learning to Fly. With a merry mix of party favourites, this show is a great family choice for this season.

The team begins the show by paying tribute to their friend Richard Hose, better known as Ricky McGregor, a proud Scott, but an equally proud Durbanite, who passed away recently. Ricky brought us the tribute show California Dreaming, a tribute to the Mammas and the Pappas which had runs at both the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre and the Heritage Theatre in Hillcrest in 2006 which involved Barry, Dawn and Marion. The team have included the title track California Dreaming, as well as the song that Ricky himself used to sing in the show, Barry McQuires’ Eve of Destruction. Expect to hear evergreen favourites Go Your Own Way, Cracklin’ Rosie, Ballroom Blitz, Play That Funky Music, Ready For Love and All Summer Long.
