The Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market was established by the Standeaven family in 1998, who dreamed of starting a weekly farmers market to help local farmers move surplus stock.
From its humble beginnings of only 12 stalls on an open field at the Shongweni Polo Club, the market grew rapidly. Over the years, it has evolved to include crafts, live music and much more. It is now a staple weekend outing for a great deal of local families, and a popular destination for people far and wide.
What draws people each week is the unique ambiance. The fact that you can buy products directly from the producer, the safe and friendly environment, the professional management and above all the feeling of being a part of a community. It’s a rare combination, which undeniably makes this the most authentic market around.
With the opportunity to bring along the entire family, including your pets – not to mention sampling and learning about products directly from the manufacturer when the opportunity arises. Come rain or shine, this market is open. It caters for everyone being completely wheelchair friendly. There are also dedicated kids zones scattered throughout the market.
The Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market is a weekly market that runs every Saturday from 06h30 to 12h30 – there is also a Meet the Artist platform where they showcase local artists once a month (the first Saturday of every month).
