WANDILE ARTHUR NODLIWA PRESENTS TWO NEW WORKS

Wandile Arthur Nodliwa in collaboration with ItsNotATherapySession will presentCha lento ingiphethe kabi” and “Another Fight”

Cha lento ingiphethe kabi/This matter bothers me addresses the danger of our childhood trauma, which disconnects us from the present moment. This is a duet dance piece fused with elements of physical theatre, and it takes us on a journey of two people with unknown baggage impacting each other, who bruise each other in the process of rediscovery.

The dance piece comes from a poem written by Wandile Arthur Nodliwa as a response to gender-based-violence which was at its peak during the first nationwide lockdown in 2020. It’s driven by two dancers on stage who represent abusive and absent mothers and fathers, and two singers who represent the community, echoing the voices in the heads of the dancers. The piece puts emphasis on how society is oblivious to each other’s sufferings yet we claim to have “humanity and love”.

It’sNotATherapySession is a collaboration of three creative artists with various forms of artist expressions. The expressions include poetry, photojournalism and self-portraiture to name a few. Sir L.S.H. often creates his poetic pieces with photojournalistic artworks by Buhlebenkosi N whose photojournalistic approach is to explore social issues focused on the black community, then further collaborates with Thandokuhle Ngcobo, a self-expressionist who uses self-portraiture to study societal identity misconceptions.

Philile Masondo is the DOP of this piece, who creates visuals presented in the forms of short films and printed photographs. These visuals serve as conceptual interpretations of two-poems and a dance piece that elucidates the story behind the poem Another Fight through our eyes and creativity.

The dancers are Wandile Arthur Nodliwa and Anelisiwe Mkosana. Singers and composers are Nkosingiphile Mkhize and Andile Mnyandu. The musician is Nhlanhla Zondi and choreography is by Wandile Nodliwa.

The Stage Manager is Anelisiwe Mkosana and the lighting designers are Gabriel Youngster Masango and Philile Masondo.

Sinqobile Kunene is in charge of administration.

The piece will be performed on Friday, April 16, 2021, from 17h00 to 20h00 at 3 Millar Road, Durban and entry is free.
