DSTV HIGHLIGHTS MAY 7 TO 13, 2021

Get ready for a Mother’s Day weekend filled with amazing local and international programming – only on DStv.

This week, reality television heads to a place we’ve all been longing for: an escape from our homes. With travel still not on the cards for many, show mom what true hospitality is like with a pamper-filled session in front of the TV.

Here are some of the highlights for the week:

Military Wives (Comedic Drama)

May, 9 on M-Net (DStv channel 101) at 20h05

Inspired by a true story, Military Wives tells the tale of women faced with the absences of their husbands, who are serving in the military in Afghanistan. The women form a choir, which soon attracts the attention of the media and inspires a global movement. This endearing movie stars Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient), Sharon Horgan (Dead Boss) and Greg Wise (The Crown).

Avenue 5 S1

May 14 on M-Net (DStv channel 101) at 22h30 and as a Boxset

Ever wondered what it would be like to go on a cruise… to space? Starring Hugh Laurie, Avenue 5 is a new science-fiction comedy series that sees the cabin crew of a space cruise ship having to deal with spoiled, rich, snotty space tourists after their ship is thrown off course. The worst part is the detour they’re on will take them three years to get back to Earth. A hilarious out-of-this-world adventure that should not be missed!

 

Bob Marley: Roots of a Man (Documentary)

May 8 on History Channel (DStv channel 186) at 20h15

History Channel’s newest docu-series Icons of Music explores the before and after of some of the most iconic names in music, with this week dedicated to reggae legend Bob Marley. As a musician, he transcended race, class and economics with his songs containing messages of universal quality. Regarded as a cultural icon who implored his people to know their history, Roots of a Man explores the life of one of the 20th-century’s most charismatic and challenging performers.

 

Joanna Lumley's Britain S1

May 8 on BBC Earth (DStv channel 184) at 19h00

Actor and presenter Joanna Lumley takes viewers on a journey through the United Kingdom, inspired by her own life history. Born in India and spending her early years in Malaysia, Britain became Lumley’s home away from home. Join her as she meets new people, retraces her steps and uncovers the wonders of the UK.

 

Ava (Action Thriller)

May 9 on M-Net Movies 2 (DStv channel 106) at 20h00

Jessica Chastain (The Help) stars as Ava Faulkner, a recovering addict and former soldier turned assassin. After questioning orders and breaking protocol from her own black ops organisation, she becomes marked for death. This action-thriller has a star-studded cast that includes John Malkovich (Of Mice and Men), Common (John Wick: Chapter 2), Geena Davis (A League Of Their Own, Thelma & Louise) and Colin Farrell (Phone Booth).
