THE BEST OF PLATFORM JAZZ

(Cathy Peacock; Bruce Baker; Kirsten Sayers, Andreas Kappen & Shelley McLean Downham)

On Sunday October 31, 2021, Durban is in for a treat when the city’s premier swing and Dixie jazz band, Platform Jazz, presents a concert at the Durban Jewish Centre.

Entitled The Best Of Platform Jazz, the concert will feature many of the audience favourite tunes from the group’s shows over the past five years.

Leading the band is Cathy Peacock on trumpet. She is joined by Andrea Balocco on trombone, Kirsten Sayers on clarinet, Jeff Robinson on sax and flute, top jazz drummer Bruce Baker on drums, the inimitable Melvin Peters on piano and  Andreas Kappen on bass.

Joining them will be three great singers. The effervescent Shelley McLean Downham, the stylish and sultry, velvet-voiced, Natalie Rungan and the suave GeeJays entertainer, Grant Bell.

Lovers of memorable music will be treated to such greats as I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Embraceable You, Mack the Knife, Mr Bojangles, What a Wonderful World and, of course, the iconic In the Mood.
