PLAYHOUSE CHRISTMAS SEASON

The Playhouse, an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture, has produced a carefully-curated programme of old school nostalgia, with a contemporary twist.  “Christmas is always an important time for us at the Playhouse and we are beyond delighted with our Christmas season programme this year,” enthuses Playhouse CEO Linda Bukhosini.

The Playhouse is fastidious about Covid protocols, and great thought and care has gone into ensuring all protocols are being observed. Face masks have to be worn at all times and for the duration of all performances. There is ample social distancing in all theatre auditoria with alternate rows remaining empty and seat allocations carefully spaced out. To minimize gathering of people, free tea and coffee stations are located throughout the Playhouse for our audiences.

The comedy is one of the Christmas productions on offer at the Playhouse this season – be sure to catch the other brilliant productions:

-Joburg Ballet in the evergreen festive ballet: The Nutcracker: December 18 &19 in the Playhouse Opera;

- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, in the Playhouse Drama: December 18 to 30.

Bukhosini continues: “‘Tis the season to kick back and wind down! Don’t rush home from work – pop into the Playhouse for our fabulous regular Sundowner Concerts and Poetry sessions featuring the best of local performers.

“Also for your enjoyment are the ongoing Test Driving the Arts concerts which takes place weekly throughout the Christmas season, and the Okwethu Community Arts Festival which provides a valuable platform for local performers, presented in partnership with Cultural and Creative Federation Industries of South Africa. All of these great shows are FREE of charge!
