FREEMAN GUMEDE AT HEADROOM

(Left: Freeman Gumede)

Bassist Nkululeko Freeman Gumede will appear at Headroom in Seaview on January 14, 2022.

Gumede is a talented bass player, composer and bandleader born in Dududu on the South coast of KwaZulu-Natal. His family then moved to Kwamashu where he stablished himself as a well-known bassist.  He has recently graduated from UKZN with a Bachelor of Music degree.

Gumede’s knowledge of music has increased significantly and being a session musician has meant tremendous growth for his musicality. Some of the jazz musicians he has worked with include vocalist Judith Sephuma, pianist Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane, vocalist Zoe the Seed, saxophonist Khaya Mahlangu, pianist Andile Yenana, saxophonist Ernest Dawkins, and pianist Lindi Ngonelo. Gumede also has his own jazz group and in 2021 he released his debut single Essence (Time and Chances).

For his Headroom show, Freeman Gumede (lead bass/vocals) will feature Tshepo Mphela on saxophone, Solomon Riba on bass, Skhulile Sibisi on drums, Nhlakanipho Zulu on keys and Thabo Sikhakhane on trumpet. Expect original compositions by Gumede that are inspired by his surroundings and personal experiences.

The gig runs on January 14, 2022, at 19h30 for 20h00. Entrance R200 includes dinner prepared by Chef Conrad Coetzee.

Headroom is situated at 21 Bridlington Road, Seaview, Durban.
