BOOKS AND ROSES – THE PERFECT VALENTINE’S COMBO

(David van der Westhuizen photographed at the KZNSA Gallery where he trades, with some of the Street Lit project’s Valentine Book Bundles – tied up with red ribbon and all of which include a complimentary eternal rose.)

The homeless book vendors from Denis Hurley Centre’s Street Lit project, want to share the love they have for literature and life ahead of Valentine’s Day and have created a special promotion to encourage romantics to buy books for their loved one.

Monday February 7 is Rose Day which marks the beginning of Valentine's week. Traditionally on this auspicious day, roses are gifted to the special person in your life, celebrating love and affection.

The vendors have been sorting through their stock and the store room to find the ultimate romantic books – from vintage cook books to exotic travel; from Shakespeare to Jane Austin; from Bridget Jones Diary to Like Water for Chocolate; from frothy rom-coms to glorious poetry; from hard covered classics to laugh out loud comedy – all the vendors have been sharing notes on the ultimate romance books and are selling little packs of companion love books – tied together with red ribbon, and with a complimentary everlasting red rose bud and babies’ breath!

Not only will you be buying a thoughtful Valentine’s gift for special people, you will be supporting a vendor who has experienced homelessness and will really welcome your patronage.
