Rhumbelow Classics Cinema on The Big Screen will present Romeo and Juliet by the Royal Ballet, live streamed on February 14, 2022, from London. Screenings will take place from February 28 to March 2, 2022.
Romeo and Juliet has become a great modern ballet classic of the ballet repertory since its creation by Royal Ballet Director, Kenneth MacMillan, and its premiere in 1965.
In this special screening on Valentine’s Day, the doomed lovers attempt to find their way through the colour and action of Renaissance Verona, where a busy market all too quickly bursts into sword fighting and a family feud leads to tragedy for both the Montagues and the Capulets.
The roles of Romeo and Juliet are performed by Marcelino SambĂ© and Anna-Rose O’Sullivan accompanied by the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.
Music by Sergey Prokofiev with choreography by Kenneth MacMillan. Nicholas Georgiadis is the designer and John B Read as lighting designer.
Screenings take place on February 28 and March 2 at 18h00. (The March 1 show is sold out.). Running time: 3 hours and 25 minutes (including two intervals). Venue opens 60 minutes before show for snacks/drinks
