The Gerard Bhengu: tradition and modernity exhibition, currently on view in the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg, includes numerous fine portraits.
This exhibition will be supported by an artist-in-residence programme. Sakhile Mhlongo, a well-known artist from Durban, who will be working in the exhibition space, producing pop-up portraits between 10h00 and 15h30 between March 16 and 18. For a nominal fee, the artist will create a small portrait for members of the public. Those who are interested in supporting the artist and acquiring an original portrait drawing should book a slot on the number below.
A deposit will be required, and portraits will be finished within 24 hours. Each person wishing to acquire a portrait from the artist should bring a photograph. The finished A4 art work will be unframed, and it is the responsibility of the purchaser to acquire a frame.
Those interested are invited to book a slot with the artist, or to simply come and watch the artist working.
