Friends of Music will host a concert on March 20, 2022, by Andrew Warburton who will play virtuoso keyboard works of the 18th Century by Bach, Scarlatti and Mozart.
This is a milestone 40th Anniversary Concert as Dr Andrew Warburton is celebrating a performing career spanning 40 years since his debut with an orchestra at the age of 18.
Acknowledged as one of the finest solo pianists and accompanists in South Africa, he has pursued a diverse musical career as soloist, accompanist and chamber musician throughout the country as well as abroad. He has performed with all the South African orchestras, encompassing a repertoire of 23 concertos.
He has served as Musical Director/Repetiteur/Chorus Master for over 100 productions of opera, musicals and ballet presented by the Playhouse Company, Durban, and the State Theatre in Pretoria. Warburton is presently Lecturer in Piano, Director of the Opera School and Choral Academy, and head of Western Classical Performance Studies at the UKZN School of Music. He graduated with a PhD in piano performance on April 1, 2019.
Prelude Players for the evening, displaying their skills on the piano will be Weiru and Weilun Yan---brother and sister studying at Ashton College. Both are students of Liezl-Maret Jacobs. They will play music from Grieg, Debussy and Chopin.
The concert will take place at 15h00 on March 20, at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 KE Masinga Road in Durban.
