SAKHILE SIMANI AT ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE & CENTRE FOR JAZZ

Supported by Concerts SA, Eastern Cape born and bred trumpet player and composer Sakhile Simani presents his project People of My Community on Friday, May 13, 2022, at Alliance Française in Durban. Doors will open at 18h00, and tickets are available on Webtickets for R70.

He will also present this programme at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music on tomorrow, May 11, 2022, at 18h00. See the artSMart article at http://news.artsmart.co.za/2022/05/sakhile-simani-people-of-my-community.html

Simani aims to bring light where there is darkness with his project. “People of my community have lost faith, hope and love. It is not about me anymore; it is communal. The influences and compositions I bring come from the people I'm surrounded with, family, neighbours and people from the streets. I believe my community is where I find peace in difficult times.” he says.

Simani will be joined on stage by Zibusiso Makhathini on the piano, Dalisu Ndlazi on bass and Riley Giandhari on the drums.

He has become a well-known jazz artist that has played for audiences both nationally and internationally. He has won several awards for his work nationally and holds a Bachelor of Practical Music degree from The University of KwaZulu-Natal.

He has had the honour of recording and playing with great musicians such as Nduduzo Makhathini, Nomfundo Xaluva, Neil Gonsalves and Siya Makuzeni and the late Sisa Sopazi, to name a few.

Concerts SA is a joint South African/Norwegian project working with musicians, promoters, venues and institutions. The project aims to grow a viable live music circuit and develop audiences in South Africa and the region. It is supported by the Norwegian Embassy Pretoria and SAMRO, and administered by IKS Cultural Consulting (formerly by SAMRO Foundation).

The performance takes place at the Alliance Française de Durban, 22 Sutton Crescent, in Morningside on May 13 at 18h00. Tickets R70 booked through Webtickets
