DSTV HIGHLIGHTS: JUNE 10 – 16, 2022

New seasons and episodes airing on DStv this week, June 10 -16, 2022.

There are movie premieres on BoxOffice, more of your favourite series, a new local production on Showmax called Meet Melusi (starring award-winning actor Mothusi Magano) and The Vodacom United Rugby Championships semi-finals on DStv this week.

It’s Open Window time again, and this time DStv Compact customers will be able to enjoy 1Magic (DStv Channel 103) and ESPN 2 (DStv Channel 219) – from June 9 to July 24.

There’s more reality series, more comedy and more exciting drama shows (including local telenovela Lingashoni and season three of Unmarried), as well as a window into the world of international sports such as American football, hockey and Major League Baseball.

Gordon Ramsay returns to BBC Lifestyle with a show that combines business, survival skills and food service. Gordon Ramsay Future Food Stars will push entrepreneurs to the limit as they fight for a £150,000 prize.

South African broadcast heavyweight Linda Sibiya is back on TV with Unzima Umshado (premiering on Moja Love DStv Channel 157 on June 12), a relationship advice show that looks at the difficulties and joys of marriage in our society. Each week couples will share their story in hopes of improving their relationship.

Jennifer Lopez brings a charming new romcom in Marry Me, a story about a pop star whose search for love leads her down an unexpected path – and it all happens in front of a live audience.

Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars S1

June 14 (Tuesdays at 20h00) - BBC Lifestyle (DStv Channel 174)

The series is set to follow an Apprentice-style format in which 12 food and drink entrepreneurs battle it out to win a life-changing investment.

Gordon Ramsay will challenge food entrepreneurs to create unique food products that can land well on the market. On the menu are clootie dumplings, an alcohol-free fizzy drink, plantain chips, sauces inspired by authentic Indian cuisine among many more culinary delights.

 

Carl Weber's The Black Hamptons

June 14 (Tuesdays at 22h00) BET (DStv Channel 129)

A new family drama set in the quaint town of Sag Harbor, known as The Black Hamptons, in Long Island, NY. The Brittons and the Johnsons are vying for top position among the elite society, and will let nothing stop them from winning. This week, the Peterson Property is at stake and both families show their teeth in an attempt to secure it.

The Proof Is Out There S2

This is for anyone who loves to latch onto the mysteries of the world. American journalist Tony Harris hosts The Proof is Out There and each week he analyses the most mysterious videos, films, photos, and audio recordings from history and uses the best technology and experts to render a credible verdict.

The new season kicks off as host Tony Harris separates the real from the fake in some of the top UFOs caught on camera in recent history. Other episodes will analyse seemingly impossible sightings including a two-headed serpent, alien ocean eggs, a Yeti sighting and a famed Bigfoot film. Harris takes nothing for granted in his quest to call out the hoaxes.

We Own this City tells the story of the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force and the corruption surrounding it. Perfect for fans of The Wire. In episode two, Jenkins (Jon Bernthal) has to face some harsh truths about being the new officer in town. Meanwhile, Suiter (Jamie Hector) is given a challenge with a new murder case.

Everyone’s favourite detective duo return in June, as season four of Hudson & Rex arrives on Universal TV. John Reardon stars as Detective Charlie Hudson, who’s partnered with Rex, a German Shepherd whose keen nose and ears are invaluable when it comes to cracking cases for the St John’s Police Department. In the season premiere, two hikers are found dead near a remote trail, leading to a hunt for a fugitive duo wanted for a series of campsite murders.


9-1-1: Lone Star S3

June 15: Wednesdays - M-Net (DStv Channel 101)

In season three of 9-1-1: Lone Star, the crew in Texas, led by firefighter captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) must work to get citizens out of a snowstorm safely. Elsewhere, there’s a troublemaker whose modus operandi has everyone baffled. Can they stop him before he becomes a nuisance to the city? 9-1-1: Lone Star will be available on DStv Catch Up.

 

A Black Lady Sketch Show

Mondays at 22h00 - 1Magic (DStv Channel 103)

The third season of this critically acclaimed series ends off with signature comedic flair in episodes 5 and 6. The stakes are high in the “World Texting Championship” and Octavia (Robin Thede) runs a top secret workout class.

Season two of this local telenovela has hit its stride. This week, Seipati and Mandla have to jump a hurdle and there’s tension in the air when enemies find themselves having to collaborate towards a common goal.

This week Dre (Anthony Anderson) loses face in front of Diane after an incident on a radio show. Elsewhere, Jack starts working as the locker room attendant for the Los Angeles Lakers. This proudly South African weekly drama is in its tenth episode, and there is yet to be a dull moment! It’s not easy being young and making a life for yourself in the City of Gold.
