(Natalie Rungan & Njabulo Nzuza)
This event, due to take place on Glenwood High School Dixon’s Field was to feature the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, with soloists Natalie Rungan and Njabulo Nzuza, and the KZN Youth Wind Band. The concert will now be crafted around a Father’s Day theme.
“We have moved it to Father’s Day Sunday, June 19. As we are being hosted by Glenwood Boys High, to offer something fun, engaging and accessible for the boys to do with their fathers and families on Father’s Day felt like an elegant solution. It is also the week of Youth Day, too, which is a fitting time to honour our young performers – the KZN Youth Wind Band,” said producer, Darin Samuel. “We invite all Durbanites – young and old, and especially Fathers, to spend Sunday June 19 with us.”
The Siza Foundation, the proactive CSI hub of The Durban-based Samuels Group – key players in the logistics, sales and marketing of petroleum related products and vehicle servicing industry in South Africa – is hosting the event as part of their arts support programme.
The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing a programme of light classics; catchy pop; hits from the musicals and some jazz fusion. One of South Africa’s premier youth ensembles, the KZN Youth Wind Band is made up of young musicians between the ages of 13 and 27, many from previously disadvantage backgrounds. It is considered one of South Africa’s finest symphonic concert bands. Conducted by Russell Scott, the band has a varied repertoire of classic symphonic band pieces, as well as swing, pop, and film music, not to mention a fantastic real South African repertoire!
