DECEPTION: REVIEW

“The story leaves the reader wondering if Alice herself will tell the family the truth of her mother’s life or will she also be part of the deception.” (Review by Christine E Hann)

Deception begins with the main character Alice on her way to her mother Sally Kent’s funeral. After the funeral service, Alice is approached by a man named Angus Tweedy, who claims to be her father. He proceeds to tell her that he served time in prison for marrying Sally bigamously and asks to meet with her in private.  Alice is naturally shocked and stunned to hear this, especially at such a difficult and emotional time. She decides to meet with Mr Tweedy and hear what he has to say. At the same time, Alice adores her father Ralph, who in turn adores his two daughters, and she just cannot believe he would not have told them this.

Alice embarks on a journey to discover who their mother really is. Sally is by no means a perfect person, as they all know only too well, but as she goes on, Alice discovers more and more hidden secrets, names and events, which bring into question everything that she has ever known about her mother’s life. Alice finds that she simply must know what happened in the past, no matter how difficult or hurtful the knowledge she uncovers is.

The book is aptly named Deception, on the part of many of the key players, Alice’s mother, her father Ralph, Angus Tweedy, and so many of the other characters you meet on the way. The story leaves the reader wondering if Alice herself will tell the family the truth of her mother’s life or will she also be part of the deception?

I wasn’t sure where a Lesley Pearce book titled Deception would go, and I was intrigued to see what the author had in store for us readers. Yet again, the author has produced a novel that is an interesting and enjoyable read. To be recommended.
