The Hilton Arts Festival runs from September 23 to 25, 2022, at Hilton College in Hilton. One of the main attractions will be Reimagining the Guitar.
Second to the piano, the guitar is the commonly played musical instrument in the world. However, it beats the venerable pianoforte by at least a few yards in terms of raw sex appeal. And while the piano has not changed a great deal since its birth around the year 1700, the guitar is evolving at a brisk pace as thousands of guitar makers around the world radically reimagine its functional structure, its sound and its gorgeous physical dimensions.
This display of guitars showcases the most recent contributions of John Söderlund, a Pietermaritzburg-based luthier, to that evolutionary arc of the guitar family, featuring acoustic and electric instruments that are all pushing the boundaries that have to date defined the guitar.
All guitars will be available for sale at ridiculously discounted prices for only the weekend of the festival.
Reimagining the Guitar will take place at the Museum (next door to the San.)
