The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will present Pretoria vocalist and UKZN Alumni Josie Matabola on October 26, 2022, at 18h00.

This blooming artist is a deep-rooted up-rising jazz vocalist with an altered defined sound to her music. She acquired her expertise at Vusi Mahlasela Music Academy, and at the University of KwaZulu-Natal where she completed her Jazz undergrad studies.

She also went on to work with Salim Washington, Andile Yenana, Sello Galane, Judith Sephuma, LouisMhlanga, MXO, Morayks and Paseka, Sanele Phakathi, and Dalisu Ndlazi, to name a few.

Matabola has performed at Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, Moretele Tribute festival, the National Arts Festival in Makhanda, the State Theatre, Black Lebone, The Chairman and many more venues across the country. Performing at the Standard Bank The Joy of Jazz is one of her music highlights. The music project by jazz vocalist Matabola is a collection of original and inspirational songs in Tswana, Isizulu. She also covers some of her favourite artists. It is fusions of South African and American jazz with most of her songs being about her life and her personal experiences. The song Mme Le ntate is for her parents. Also expect to hear her other originals such as Lerato, which she composed after the xenophobic attacks, and a song about her journey in music Mpho ya mmino.

Matabola will joined by Thuto Motsemme on bass, Zibusiso Makhathini on piano, Tshiamo Nkoane on drums Thabo Sikhakhane on trumpet and Ofetse Sebola on saxophone.
