SUNDAY SOIRÉE IN THE GARDEN

For a relaxed afternoon of live music in one of Morningside’s coziest settings, join Durban musicians, Naresh Veeran and Praline Ross, as they cabaret their way through five decades of popular and jazz hits on Sunday, October 30, 2022.

Performing together for the first time on Veeran’s lawn at his home, Ross plans on flexing her vocal muscles on such classics as Unforgettable, Where The Boys Are and At Last, while Veeran will cover such standards as Black Orpheus, Besame Mucho and In A Sentimental Mood on tenor saxophone.

Ross, a Speech & Drama Associate of Trinity College (London), has performed for more than a decade in all of Durban’s iconic venues including the ICC, the Catalina and the Rhumbelow Theatre. As part of the opening act for George Benson and Al Jarreau on the Durban leg of their tours, Ross went on to star in Hamish Kyd’s musical revue, Motown Forever, and later lit the stage with Fabulous 50s.

Taking a break from performance for almost a decade to complete her masters and doctoral degrees, Ross has only recently returned to the stage and is chuffed at the opportunity to voice Sunday Soirée In The Garden.

Between songs, Ross will share moments from her musical journey as they’ve impacted her life and her now full-time role in the area of self-transformation.

“Some hilarious, some painful but never boring”, promises Ross.

The event itself is Veeran’s initiative to create a perfect Sunday afternoon experience by sharing his garden and Durban’s amazing weather with musicians, picnic lovers and fans of live music once monthly. His home can best be described as ”iconically old-school Durban” and features a park-like garden which Veeran says has been at least a hundred years in the making. To date, it has played host to sold-out sessions by Veeran performing solo and with his friends including British-born Raymond Perrier, Mexican artist and performer Ram Miranda and South African jazz pianist, Melvin Peters.

A full-time musician and meditation practitioner in the Renshi Kung Fu tradition, Veeran is an MBA/PhD from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Ross and Veeran will perform at their Sunday Soirée In The Garden on October 30 at 13h30. Pack a picnic, a blanket and your favourite tipple.

Entrance is R120 pp. Limited space so book early on 082 376 0799.
