Friends of Music and Christopher Duigan’s Music Revival will present a programme titled 20 Popular Classics at the Durban Jewish Centre on November 20, 2022, at 15h00.
Pianist Christopher Duigan makes a welcome return to Friends of Music in this concert.
For this performance, Duigan will play 20 Popular Classics, an extremely appealing programme that includes many of the most recognised and celebrated classical piano melodies from the repertoire. Duigan will include Mozart - Rondo all turca, de Falla - Ritual Fire Dance, the dazzling Liszt - Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, Debussy - Clair de lune and Chopin - Polonaise Op. 53 ‘Heroic’.
This concert is suitable for young and aspiring musicians and “free” tickets are available to those of school-going age.
Widely regarded as one of South Africa's leading concert pianists, Christopher Duigan has been recognized as a “South African piano icon” and “national musical treasure” (Classic Feel, June 2009). He has performed extensively with all leading South African orchestras in a repertoire of more than 25 works for piano and orchestra and over 100 performances. In recital, he has developed a popular following through his innovative presentation and programming of a broad and eclectic taste in music.
In 2010, Duigan became one of only six pianists in South African history to be invited to be a 'Steinway Artist', joining an exclusive company of renowned international pianists.
