SUNDAY SESSION – MILKYWAY GALAXY

 


The next concert in Rhumbelow Theatre’s Sunday Session programme will be Milkyway Galaxy which will take place on November 20, 2022.

The Milkyway Galaxy band was formed in 2011 by drummer Mzamo Zungu, Bonga Xulu -bass guitarist, Sbonelo Nxumalo keyboard and vocalist Phumeza Nkosi.

Mzamo Zungu from KwaMashu started playing the drums in 2002. He joined the cast of Bayede Shaka under the well-known entertainment and production company, KCAP. He has performed for Jimmy Dludlu. He has played with Psalms and Rhythms, Mfiliseni Magubane, and casted in Magic of Africa.

Bonga Xulu is a Durban-born and based musician who is twins to Siya (veteran drummer). He has been for playing for almost a decade and has shared stage with the likes of Freshly Ground, Xolisa Dlamini, Zakwe and Beast, to name a few.

Sbonelo Nxumalo is a pianist who hails from a small township in Mandeni Northern KZN. His love for music started at the tender age of five when his family moved to Durban. He is currently studying a Bachelor of art (music) degree in University of KwaZulu-Natal. His sound is influenced by Bheki Mseleku, Rob Araujo, and Robert Glasper to name a few. He has toured Canada and Holland with the cast of Umoja, toured Europe with Zululand Choir. He is currently working with Mbongeni Ngema and Scelo Ngowane.

Well known as Senzi, vocalist Phumeza Nkosi hails from the heart of Ntuzuma. She started singing in church at the age of 16 as a worshipper. Two years later, she formed part of a Community Musical called Unyazi, she was recognised by Tu Nokwe and formed part of her project called Isihlahla Sobuntu Musical. She has also worked with Zuluboy in a show called I once had it all. She was also a contestant in Coca Cola Pop Stars.

The band’s fresh and refreshing sound draws from several genre - jazz, pop, African music and rock.

Their performance takes place on November 20, 2022. Show starts at 14h00. (Venue opens 90 minutes before show for snacks/drinks)

R100 a ticket - cash venue for tickets

Food is available at the Rhumbelow and there is limited secure parking. There is a full bar (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises)
