INDEPENDENCE OF THE CULTURAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE (CER)

The Prince Claus Fund is announcing the independence of the Cultural Emergency Response (CER)

Marcus Desando, Director of the Prince Claus Fund (formerly director of the Arts & Culture Trust in South Africa) has announced: “Today we celebrate Cultural Emergency Response's launch as an independent organisation! In 2003, CER was created to protect cultural heritage in crisis by the Prince Claus Fund. CER started as a programme in reaction to the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas and the looting of the Iraq Museum. In the 20 years that followed, CER has become a leading organization to protect the world's cultural heritage. The Prince Claus Fund and CER will remain close in advocating for culture as a basic need. Follow them as they protect culture in crisis.”

Desando adds that the Fund is proud of what CER has achieved over the past two decades:

"We recognize that Cultural Emergency Response is ready to evolve so that it can address the most pressing needs of heritage conservation. CER is also able to enter into new partnerships, achieve more and increase its impact. We are pleased and delighted that CER will now establish itself as an independent organisation."
