Durban audiences are in for a treat with the Dance production 4Graphy that is set to be staged at the Playhouse Loft theatre on Saturday March 4, 2023, in two showcases a matinee at 15h00 and in the evening at 19h00.

This new dance production produced from the Dance Movement Arts congress project and administered under the npo Wentworth arts & culture organisation is funded by the NAC PESP & AMAFA institute.

4Graphy opens the showcase season at the Playhouse for 2023. The first production to be on at the newly renovated Playhouse is directed and choreographed by long-time dance-maker Jarryd Watson. He is joined by a collaborated team of Durban choreographers, Casey Swales, Cue Ngema and Lyrical Deezy from Cape Town.

The versatile cast members were selected from emerging young professional dancers from Durban and Cape Town who are highly skilled in ballet, hip hop, contemporary & inclusive dance.

A cast that is made up of 18 dancers portrays the various narratives of “post covid’’ & the experiences that society is facing from the pandemic as they recover, rebuild, and restore what was lost during that time.

The idea of four choreographers coming together to create this dance production hence the unique title 4Graphy interprets these narratives through the dance genres of 15 minutes each showcasing ballet choreographed by Swales, hip hop by Deezy , contemporary by Ngema and inclusive arts disability by Watson.

Director Jarryd Watson says: “I’m so excited about this production that is the second instalment of this Dance Movement project. The first time we did the show in Cape Town during covid 2021 under the show Stripped and now Durban can see the continuation.

4Graphy is a dance production that brings a unique and experimental showcase exuding with energy from the versatile dance genres and this one-hour show is for all audiences with specific tastes for dance will enjoy.”
