BARRY IS BACK: REVIEW

This show is highly recommended, and you should really not miss it. (Review by Keith Millar)

Durban's illustrious guitar wizard, Barry Thomson was forced to go farming during the Covid pandemic in order to survive. This was a time that devastated the entertainment industry and gigs were few and far between.

But now BARRY IS BACK! - with a new one man show at the Rhumbelow Theatre in Umbilo.

And the exciting news is that his experience of growing pink peppercorns has in no way diminished his considerable skill, sensitivity and downright brilliance as a performer.

Barry Is Back features Thomson alone on the stage with his guitars performing the music of some of his favourite artists.

Thompson is a skilled and self-deprecating raconteur who wears his heart on his sleeve as he relates the background and reasons for his song selections.

It is sometimes rather intense, sometimes a bit sad, but mostly joyous as the music of great artists such as Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Steve Wynwood, Keb Mo, Jackson Brown, CCR, Rod Stewart, Jackson Browne, Bob Seeger, The Eagles, David Bowie, John Bonamassa, The Rolling Stones and a couple of his own compositions for good measure, are shared with the audience by this consummate musician.

This show is highly recommended, and you should really not miss it.

Trouble is that there is only one show left, and that is at 14h00 today, (Sunday February 19).
