The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) is proud to announce that Arthur Nkuna has been appointed Chairperson of the ACT Board of Trustees replacing outgoing Chairperson, David Dennis who has completed his tenure.
A current member of the ACT Management Committee and the ACT Financial Management, Risk and Audit Committee, Nkuna is a Johannesburg-based talent specialist who has been a key player in the creative entrepreneurial space and an advocate for synergies between the creative and business worlds.
Nkuna brings his technical expertise, vast experience as well as an understanding, passion, and enthusiasm for growing the creative economy to his new leadership role at the ACT Board. He believes that improving business knowledge is key to the sustainable future of creatives in South Africa and strongly supports the ACT in its initiatives and programmes to build a better, more economically viable arts and culture sector.
Professionalism, passion and ongoing continuity are crucial contributors to the success of the Trust. Its 29-year legacy and ethos require custodians to ensure relevance and growth.

Nkuna says, “I am truly honoured by this appointment and support provided by the ACT Board of Trustees. I look forward to working with my Trustee colleagues, the ACT team, and our broader stakeholder community as we execute the long- term strategic goals aimed at growing the organisation from strength to strength”.
Outgoing Chairperson of the ACT Board David Dennis, who served on the Arts & Culture Trust Board for the past seven years, had these encouraging words to say: “It is both a privilege and honour to have served on the Arts & Culture Trust Board in the capacity as board member/trustee. There has been much to question, interrogate, refine and implement through a challenging time – and that really goes without saying with respect to any institution that is willing to introspect, reflect and subject itself to organisational review processes during tough times.
“On behalf of those of us who make our departure at this juncture, we are acutely aware that this work is not yet done and that there is much still to do. However, as outgoing chair, I must express full confidence in the current board and the executive for the invigorating manner in which both branches, of oversight and administration, have begun to conduct themselves in the focus of the core business of the trust and its constituents.”
Dennis further added: “My profound gratitude goes to our founding partners, Nedbank and Sun International, for their constant support. My very best wishes in all their deliberations and congratulations to the new Chair Arthur Nkuna and the Trustees. Gratitude and respect for your commitment to assisting the sector, where possible, through many challenges. Long may our association endure!”
