AUDITION FOR THE NATIONAL SCHOOL OF THE ARTS 2024 INTAKE

Deadline: Applications to audition for the NSA close on May 10, 2023.

The window to apply to audition for the National School of the Arts 2024 intake is now officially open. Prospective learners should start preparing!

The NSA is a School of Specialisation in Performing and Creative Arts where creatively gifted learners from Grades 8 to 12 can excel artistically and academically. Admission to the school depends on a successful audition in either art, dance, drama or music.

“We are pleased to announce that we will be auditioning for our new intake on May 13 and 27, 2023. We are mindful that the admission process can be stressful for parents and learners. We want to get a head start so that once the GDE online system opens, we already have a clear indication of those who have succeeded in their audition and those who have not,” said NSA principal Mrs Salome Gaelesiwe.

Details on the admissions process are available on the school website, www.artschool.co.za

Once the online application is complete, the admissions office will contact applicants with an audition time. Auditions are by appointment only to manage the demand and to ensure the day runs smoothly for all concerned.

Gaelesiwe continued: “Audition day at the NSA is exciting, and we look forward to welcoming all potential learners. It is important to remember that every NSA journey starts with an audition. Our auditionees will be joining the hundreds who have faced the same nerves and excitement over the years with the same yearning and hope that it will be a “yes” from the auditioning panel!”

Audition material is available on the website under the individual art subjects. There is an option to upload a video audition submission, although all final auditions will be in person. The school urges all interested candidates to apply early, “We want to avoid the last-minute rush, which also impacts the preparation time needed for a successful audition”, commented MS Johannah Bila from the admissions office, “The audition is the only key that opens the door to the NSA for new learners. Limited spaces are also available for admission to Grades 9-11.”

Once the GDE online registration opens for Grade 8 admission in 2024 – all learners MUST register online. Learners who pass the NSA audition and receive an offer for a place in 2024 will only be officially accepted and enrolled on receipt of the GDE reference number confirming their registration on the GDE admissions website. The GDE online registration is non-negotiable.

2023 Annual School fees are currently: R31,800.00.

The NSA also has a hostel for out-of-town learners. 2023 Hostel fees are R56,000.00 for termly boarders and R40,000.00 for weekly boarders.

Based on the 2022 Matric Results, the NSA is one of the top five schools in the Johannesburg South District with 143 Distinctions, 83 Bachelor Passes, and a 97% Pass Rate.

Gabriel Poulsen, the DUX student of 2022 and RCL Vice President, achieved a full house of distinctions and was placed third in the district. The NSA makes good on its promise of realising dreams through excellence in arts and academics.

“Our learners pursue their real passion every day, and that, coupled with the discipline and dedication needed to excel in the arts, translates into their academic work,” concluded Gaelesiwe.

Interested parents and learners, please note that the applications to audition for the NSA close on May 10, 2023.
