The Hilton Arts Festival is very excited to bring to the stage Isidlamlilo, an electrifying one-woman tour de force, brought to life by Mpume Mthombeni and Neil Coppen.
In this remarkable performance, Mthombeni takes centre stage, skilfully narrating the death-defying life story of Zenzile Maseko—a Zulu grandmother haunted by her past as an IFP assassin during the lead-up to the historic 1994 South African elections. Through frank, comic, and captivating storytelling, she transports us into a world of intrigue and resilience.
This work is one of the most important works of our time, within the South African context. Critic Steve Kretzeman couldn't help but praise the production, stating, "Woven together from true stories and testimonials... Isidlamlilo expands our horizons... This is fantastic theatre."
Isidlamlilo is a powerful story of redemption, regeneration, and reinvention, an absolute must-see.
