Friends of Music welcomes back Opera Angels, a unique musical duo based in South Africa, who will give a concert on July 30 at the Durban Jewish Centre.
Comprising of Dr Lisa Engelbrecht (soprano and pianist) and Lindsay Thomson (mezzo-soprano), Opera Angels create unique performances encompassing opera classics, sacred music, Broadway hits, and their own arrangements of some truly beautiful contemporary classics.
Engelbrecht is a renowned musician whose work has led her all over the world. She combines being Operatic Vocal Coach at the prestigious UCT Opera School with her performing career as a collaborative pianist and soprano. She has coached at Opera National du Rhin, British Youth Opera and the Grange Festival, to name but a few. She has recently been in Charlotte, North Carolina coaching young performers at the International Lyric Academy.
Thomson has also worked in South Africa and Europe, both as part of opera companies and with her own classical crossover shows. Highlights include tours and local productions with Cape Town Opera as well as being a guest performer on a number of splendid ships.
Opera Angels have brought their distinctive collaboration to a variety of great venues across South Africa, as well as on the high seas aboard the exclusive Queen Victoria. They are excited to share their love of music and song with audiences. Expect everything from intricate baroque pieces and rousing Mozart duets to songs from the stage and screen.
The concert takes place on July 30, 2023, at 15h00 at the Durban Jewish Centre. Tickets R140 (R120 FOM Members) available at the door (Cash only)
