Rhumbelow Classics Cinema - On The Big
Screen will present A “Bring back the Past” special showing with The Men
From The Ministry - The Movie on July 23 at 14h00.
Take yourself back to a time when families used to sit around together in the lounge in the evenings, listening to a radio! Almost incomprehensible, in this day and age!
The Men From The Ministry was one of Springbok Radio’s top comedy programmes, with over 1 million listeners at the height of its popularity. It chronicled the efforts of the British Government’s General Assistance Department to problem solve, efforts which invariably ended in chaos or disaster. Roland Lennox-Brown (“Number One”) and Richard Lamb (“Number Two”), along with their secretary, Mildred Murfin, had a knack of compounding errors with further errors, much to the frustration of their Department Chief, Sir Gregory Pitkin.
Following up on the success of the radio programme (which ran for over 900 episodes), The Men From The Ministry was made into a film in 1971. The script was written and directed by Tom Meehan and Brian Squires, who were responsible for the majority of the radio programmes.
So join patrons at Rhumbelow Theatre for a good laugh at a once-off screening of the movie, as we endeavour to “Bring Back The Past”.
