2023 RECAP

Carol Brown of Curate a Space looks back on the last year:

Zinhle, who as most of you know, worked with me at Curate.a.Space since 2017 has now been appointed as Curator at The Pencil Gallery in Umhlanga. I thank her for the many years of her dedication, friendship and loyalty and am thrilled that she is flying ahead.

This is my third year in Joburg so we have taken on new artists, friends and venues. Keith and I are enjoying the vibrant art scene whilst we still keep in touch with our Durban artist friends.

We finished the year in 2023 with a very successful exhibition at the Bamboo Gallery in Melville with an exhibition called Binocular Vision. Sue Clark was one of the six exhibitors and this exhibition was my first project with her. Since then, we have worked together and Curate.A.Space is proud to curate her first solo show at the Forge in Braamfontein.

2024 NEWS UPDATE

Sue Clark is an architect who was last year’s First Prize winner of the Thami Mnyele Award.  Her work is characterised by an interest in urban decay, monuments, and environmental degradation. She works with textiles, discarded scrap materials, and 3D projections. The exhibition is multi-media with sculptures, films and drawings.

This will be the first art exhibition in this venue, and we selected it for its contemporary urban feel, large bright light spaces, and multiple areas. (Some of you may recognise that it is close to Kalashnikov’s former gallery space.) We are excited to have Senzeni Marasela as the guest speaker on Saturday, March 9, at noon.

You are invited. Bring your friends to this amazing show ---It’s more than an exhibition – It’s an experience.
