BEAT-ROUTE FOR CENTRE FOR JAZZ

Centre for Jazz and Popular Music presents Beat-Route: A Night of Timeless Jazz and Vibrant Fusion.

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music is thrilled to announce a special performance by the acclaimed jazz ensemble Beat-Route on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 17h30.

Formed in 2004, Beat-Route has become one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most esteemed and busiest live jazz acts, captivating audiences with their innovative and eclectic performances. With upcoming gigs scheduled across the country into 2025, Beat-Route continues to be a driving force in the South African jazz scene.

Celebrated for their two decades of exceptional musical artistry, Beat-Route has established a formidable reputation in KwaZulu-Natal. The ensemble, known for its acoustic swing jazz performances, seamlessly blends traditional jazz with a diverse array of influences. Their repertoire has evolved to include a rich mix of Latin, Flamenco, and African elements, alongside progressive smooth and punchy acid jazz sounds.

The core line-up features Gerald Sloan on guitar, Daniel Sheldon on trumpet and percussion, Logan Byrne on upright bass, Bucco Xaba on drums. Adding to the dynamic sound for larger gigs is Zoe "The Seed", one of KZN's most extraordinary vocalists, whose soulful and beautifully arranged jazz and popular favourites elevate the ensemble's performances. With a remarkable history of over a thousand gigs, Beat-Route has performed at prestigious events and collaborated with notable brands and institutions.

Beat-route will perform at the UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music on September 4, 2024. Doors open at 17h00, music starts at 17h30.
