The St Clements Mondays @ 6 Programme on September 2, 2024, at 18h00 will feature Lu Dlamini and Marius Botha.
Friends of Pieter Scholtz invite audiences to what promises to be a memorable and entertaining evening of melodies and jazz featuring storytelling through music and words, with a little poetry and flower power thrown in, intended to remind us, this Heritage Month, of our resilience as people and as a nation. And to put us in the mood for nature’s annual seasonal transition. Come join the celebration.
"September is a unique month. A month to mark our nation’s diverse culture and heritage. It is associated with two distinct birth flowers, the striking aster and the gorgeous morning glory, both known for their resilience. Appropriate as we are a resilient nation.
"September is a time of transition when nature changes, many things are born, new leaves sprout, flowers bloom.
"It is the best time to tell our stories through music and words allowing September’s saints to be our guides, available to help us prepare for change, including change in our lives.
"Lu Dlamini and Marius Botha started their musical journeys in a divided South Africa. From that time, they realised music is the only platform for them to use to bring the children of our country together. 'We use music to celebrate our differences the same way we do when we discover similarities,' they say.
Lu and Marius invite you all to join in a celebration of our heritage at St Clements on September 2 through music fused with poetry. Words by son-of-the-soil Professor Eugene Skeef, a poet, percussionist, composer and educator also known for his cultural work all over the world. His words will be presented by Deborah Ewing, a talented poet and author in her own right who was born in England but has made South Africa her home."
During the past three months, Lu Dlamini with Marius Botha has headlined at The Chairman, at an Alliance Française evening, at the UKZN Centre for Jazz, at a St Clements “general public” evening and other places. When the donation box comes round, audiences are invited to give generously and a minimum of R50 per person.
Weather permitting, the presentation will be outdoors. Indoors only if it rains.
