The UKZN School of Arts (Music) is proud to announce its
inaugural Showcase concert which will take place at 19h00 on Wednesday, October
2 at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.
African Music and Dance, Jazz and Popular Music, Opera, Choral Music and Western Art Music are well-established performance streams in the School of Arts. This multi-genre concert recognises that collaboration and representation of the culture and traditions of our diverse community is central to an effective and progressive education.
The concert will feature performances by student soloists and ensembles, including the African Music and Dance Ensemble, the UKZN Jazz Ensemble and Big Band and the Pop Voice Ensemble. Opera students will perform selections from a Zulu translation of Mozart’s The Magic Flute/Umtshingo wemilingo as well as other well-loved operatic works. Audiences can look forward to a diverse music programme that will include standards and original compositions and arrangements by UKZN Music staff, students and alumni.
This concert is made possible by project funding from the Mzansi Philharmonic Orchestra.
