DURBAN CHAMBER CHOIR MUSIC MOSAIC

Celebrating the diversity of our musical cultures

In its final pair of concerts for 2024, the Durban Chamber Choir presents a programme celebrating the diversity of musical cultures, both in South Africa and further afield, with two performances – firstly at NG Kerk, Umhlanga on Saturday October 19 at 15h00 and secondly, at St Thomas, Musgrave on Sunday October 27 at 15h00.

The concert begins with a homage to Charles Villiers Stanford, marking the centenary of his death with his three Latin Motets. Several other sacred works feature in the programme, and include more modern composers such as Van Der Westhuizen, Poston & Paulus. The audience will also hear a selection of local pieces in Xhosa, and Zulu (a lullaby, a traditional Zulu song, and a formal composition by KwaZulu-Natal’s celebrated composer Phelelani Mngoma). The programme concludes with a delightful setting of Afrikaans folk songs from the Cape. The choir’s conductor is Andrew-John Bethke.

Tickets will be available at the door for R100, concessions R70, free to students with student ID.

Audiences are invited to join the choir after the performances for tea, cake and conversation.
